Pipe Coil Technology Limited

Coiled straight technology

Coiled straight technology applies to plumbing and radiant heating pipe that requires a post extrusion curing process to occur, such as polybutylene or PEX(b) .

The problem

If these product types are wound into finished coils directly at the end of the extrusion line the pipe will prove difficult to handle during installation, as it has gained it's "memory" at a small bend radius within the coil shape.

Pipe that has been produced in this way will be at a market disadvantage to other pipe types such as PEX(a) and PEX(c), whose production processes inherently include curing prior to being coiled.

The solution

To alleviate the pipe handling difficulties associated with PB and PEX(b) , Pipe Coil Technology Limited offer an equipment solution which enables the pipe to be cured at a large bend radii and subsequently wound into finished coil sizes.

At the end of the extrusion line pipe is wound to a large diameter process drum with a core diameter of typically 2.5 to 3m and an flange diameter of typically 4 to 5m .

For PB pipe the full drum is set aside for the required period to allow crystallisation to occur and for PEX(c) the drum is put through a steam curing process.

Pipe is then wound into finished coils using a high speed automatic rewind line.

As the pipe has achieved it's memory at the large bend radii, it is much easier to handle when it is removed from the coil and handles in a similar way to PEX(a) and PEX(c) pipe.
