Large drum spooling machines

Drum spooling stands for use with drums up to 11m diameter and weighing up to 400 t. Spooling stands feature hydraulic drum lift and hydraulic drive with manual or constant torque render operating modes.

Carousel loading arms and control systems

Loading arms for transferring umbilical or cable into storage carousels, operating either directly from a manufacturing process, such as a sheathing line, or from another storage carousel or drum.

These loading arms feature built in caterpillar haul-off with manual, or dancing arm speed control modes and powered arm rotation to lay product at desired diameter inside.

The carousel control system allows the carousel speed to automatically follow the linear speed of product being transferred, with manual trim for fine tuning of carousel speed.

Drum winding, unwinding and re-spooling machines

A variety of drum handling machines have been designed and supplied for applications in plastics, wire rope, umbilical and flow-line manufacturing, including:

• Drum stands:
  • Pintle type for drum weights up to 200t.
  • A-frame type for drum weights up to 50t.
  • Gantry type for drum weights up to 25t.
• Under-roller machines for drum weights up to 400t.
• Drum transporters/mobile winding stands for drum weights up to 60t.
• Automatic re-spooling line for drum to drum transfer of product at up to 200m/min.

'S-Z' umbilical lines

Umbilical production lines incorporating:

• 'S-Z' winding machine.
• Four head spiral wrap taping machine.
• Caterpillar haul-off.
• Drum pay-off.
• Drum take-up stands.

This equipment allows manufacture of umbilical of any length and up to 300 mm outer diameter with variable pitch 'S-Z' lay.

It is also possible to use this equipment for short length production of umbilicals with helical lay.

Integrated control of equipment from industrial PC based control system with optional SCADA system and data logging.

Horizontal turntables

Horizontal turntables for winding steel wire rope, or similar products, into coils weighing up to 30t .

Turntables are electrically driven with local and/or remote control and can be specified for indoor or outdoor installations.

Umbilical Spoolers

Spooling stands for controlled tension transfer of umbilical cable, or wire rope, between shipping drum to operating winch.

Hydraulic or electrically driven, these spoolers typically have two modes of operation: variable speed take-up; and constant tension payoff.

Track winder

Machine for winding armoured vehicle track into coils at the end of an assembly line. The machine winds the track onto a pallet, operating in the vertical plane, and rotates the completed coil and pallet to a horizontal position for unloading.

Automatic 'pick and place' overhead crane

An automated overhead crane designed to move large drums of pipe weighing 10 t . Operating on a 4x4 grid, the crane features accurate X-Y position control. Desired drum movements between any positions on the grid are programmed on a remote touchscreen panel.

200t tensile test rig

A test rig for carrying out tensile testing of armoured umbilical or ropes. Features controllable strain rate and recording of sample extension against tensile load and time. This unit can handle sample lengths up to 12m long and diametres of up to 300mm .
